Meme Of The Week 9-2

This week’s meme is The Leo Strut

The Back Story: During the filming of the movie Inception an image was snapped of Leonardo DiCaprio strutting off the set. Rumored that they had just finished shooting a scene and were taking a break for a little while he is pictured strutting with a smug look on his face as if he is really pleased with a job well done. None of us look like this when we’re going on our lunch break at work do we? Want to know why? Because he’s getting paid millions of dollars and at the time this picture was taken he was thinking about his trailer he was walking toward that was stocked full of fine hookers and a mountain of blow. You’d be strutting and happy too! I went to college and had dreams but now I have to sit here and write crap like this all day, but I digress. Anyway, the image circulated, people thought it was funny and showed a softer side of old Leo. Then it started to get photo shopped into different scenes and it began to spread like wild fire. For a meme that has only been around a couple of months it has already exploded in popularity and has achieved cross meme status many times over. The main attraction of this meme is the versatility, you can use it in pretty much anything. In popular examples the creator of the image may place Leo in a scene of destruction or disaster where it appears he may either be responsible or may be able to help or prevent what had happened but is joyfully walking away. Other images place Leo into crowds turning it into more of a Where’s Waldo style image. Some more place Leo into crowd scenes as to interact with what is going on.

The set up: Add Leo to an image

Meme Of The Week 8-26

This week’s meme is I CAME

The Back Story: This meme is generally used as forum humor. During the course of a forum thread if someone posts a picture of an attractive woman or if there is discussion of intercourse some clown will generally post an “I CAME” image. The way back long story of this is a bit too graphic for us to get into but let’s just say it involves a TV show with a little boy informing his mom of something he had just done with the family dog which is met with thunderous applause. This quote is taken directly from that scene in the TV show so draw your own conclusion.

The set up: Add the caption I CAME to an image portraying what looks like a scene of post ejaculation.

Meme Of The Week 8-19

This week’s meme is one of the oldest and one of the best, Ha Ha Guy

The Back Story: Ha! Ha! Guy (or Quaker Guy) first appeared in a 19th century newspaper advertising “Forbes’ Insoluble Dry Plates. The advertisements had a cheery Anglican or Quaker laughing about using a insoluble dry plate.

The image reappeared around early 2003 on SomethingAwful where it had local use. Two and a half years later, it spread to Fark.com and became a hit. Ha Ha Guy appeared in almost every thread and began to get out of hand. Fark admins started issuing temporary bans on users who over posted the images to try and cut down on it’s use. This caused a backlash within the community and on July 15th, 2005 Fark admins created a page so everyone could get it out of their system and post Ha Ha Guy images to their hearts content. This was later referred to as “The Grey Wave.” Since then Ha Ha Guy has been hailed by many as the king of memes. It has the ability to be applied to almost anything and has even spawned into cross meme status where another meme theme is incorporated into it. Ha Ha Guy has also spawned into real life with Halloween costumes, t-shirts, white boards, etc.

The set up: Simple, use the image and add text to make it appear the guy is laughing about something.

Meme Of The Week 8-12

This week’s meme is CSI comic

The Back Story: If you’ve ever seen the show CSI: Miami, you’ll know that each episode starts off with lead actor David Caruso (playing Haratio Cain) making some sort of delayed dry humored one liner relating to the crime scene while putting on his sunglasses. The jokes are so cheesy and so full of fail that it becomes humorous. The one liner is then followed by the opening song and credits which blasts with “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who.
Video evidence with the Endless Caruso One Liners:

The meme hit the internet around mid 2007 and has had a mild following ever since.

The set up: First panel sets the scene, second panel is the start of the joke delayed into the end of the joke in the third panel followed by YEEEEAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!
