Birthstones are always confusing for guys, luckily the gang from Personal Creations gave us this handy dandy guide with cool graphics explaining what they all mean.
Birthstones have been around for thousands of years, and have had religious and societal significance throughout that time in cultures around the globe. Some believe that these stones have healing or other metaphysical properties, while some simply appreciate the gems for their vibrancy and luster. Everyone from kings to meditation gurus have used and appreciated the properties of these stones, and so can you!
We collected information about each of the 12 birthstones and put them into 12 simple yet informative animated graphics.
January – Garnet
The name “Garnet” is derived from the Latin term garanatus, which means “seed” or “seed like.” There are historical references dating back as far as 3100 B.C. in Ancient Egypt, where Garnet was compared to the pomegranate seed in appearance.
In the 1880s cigarette companies started putting cards into paper packs of cigarettes to strengthen the container and protect the smokes. It wasn’t long unto they got the idea to start putting trivia, artwork or even pretty girls on the cards to help with marketing. In the 1910s, Gallaher LTD of Belfast & London and Ogden’s Branch of the Imperial Tobacco Co printed the first series of “How-To” (or as we call them “life hack”) style cards with clever tips and tricks for everyday problems. From steaming out a splinter to recorking a bottle, these cigarette cards told you the smart way to handle many of life’s problems.
The Legend of Zelda is one of the most popular franchises by Nintendo today. Whether they’re a gamer or not, anyone can recognize the main character, Link (who is often mistaken by non-gamers as the titular Zelda). But before it became the household name that it is now, it had its humble beginnings as a game in the Famicom Disk System that was being developed alongside Super Mario, another well known Nintendo game. And even though this game was released a long time ago, there are still a few facts that you can learn about this epic action-adventure game.
